I have been settling into my new position with the Minister's office quite satisfactorily. I am pleased that my experience with organisation and press relations will be put to good use, in humble service to Our Lord. Unfortunately, my office space isn't quite what I was led to expect, but this is merely a temporary measure, I have been assured. I will be moved to accommodations more in keeping with the dignity of a Council Member in a month or two.

I also plan to move to a newer, larger flat at the end of the month. My new home has quite a pleasant, even luxurious ambiance, and its easy proximity to Court is certainly an inducement. I fully expect in the months to come I shall be doing some occasional entertaining in connexion with my new position with the Council, and so naturally I needed a larger space.

With new responsibilities, of course, come new social commitments and invitations. I am quite looking forward to this coming weekend, which I will be spending at the Snowdonia Resort in the company of several of my new colleagues on the Council.

My dear Antonin,

You were generous enough to mention your willingness in the past to lend me certain texts from the extensive collection of books you have collected on your travels. Naturally, now that I have entered Our Lord's service more directly, I am even more grateful for your kindness. I would certainly profit from your guidance as to what texts might serve as the most fruitful basis for further study. I still occasionally pick up my copy of Mastery Over Self, to refresh myself with the exercises, but...

Yes.

Perhaps--I cannot seem to locate my copy of Clements-Chichester's Grimories of the Worthy Families. That was your recommendation, was it not?

My own father did not give me the sort of guidance that one would expect of a Worthy Family. I feel the deficit most keenly.

I remember one absurd book he showed me--I no longer remember the title clearly, something like Zed and the Artistry of Muggle Transportation. An American book. Can you imagine? He was obsessed with Muggles. He couldn't make heads or tails of the book himself, but he said that it might be fun if we both read it and it might spur some discussion.

Fun. How ridiculous.

What should I read next?

I shall do my utmost to uphold the honour which Our Lord has bestowed upon me.

Thank you, all, who helped me reach this point.
alt_percy: (Tie)
I am so unspeakably sorry.

Please let me know of any way I may be of assistance.
alt_percy: (Tie)
Your methods seem to have backfired. At the very least, threatening Miss Parkinson was a spectacularly bad idea. Both in terms of the effect on Ron, as well as persons looking out for her.

I did what I could. A fact which I hope you will remember in the future?
alt_percy: (Tie)
I had my weekly lunch with Bill today and learned that you spent a day at MLE yesterday, undergoing some tests. Would you care to meet for lunch tomorrow to discuss? Perhaps I can give you some insights into the thoughts of several people you met Tuesday which will help you position yourself for however you wish to advance, whether its along the Auror track, or greater service yet, toward the Council?

I'd suggest the Brasserie at noon. Are you free, and open to the suggestion?

My treat, of course.

I have been watching with keen interest the process by which Our Lord is choosing to test the mettle and resolve of the small, select group at Hogwarts who have been singled out for the opportunity to demonstrate their fitness to stand within His Council. I hope that those of you who may have been disappointed not to receive an Ourboros pin of your own are still standing by your comrades and cheering them on. Only the best, of course, will be chosen, but you can still give your friends an advantage if you offer them your heartfelt encouragement and support.

This is just a brief note to say to the candidates: Courage, and do your best. Many eyes are upon you, so do your utmost to strive to please Our Lord.

If you do that, you can continue to hold your head high, no matter what the outcome.

I have received your communication by owl, dated this day, but am somewhat at a loss in what reply you might wish me to make. Upon consultation of the roster, I note that you have NOT been named one of the designated monitors for the latest Challenge set by Our Lord. I suppose you hoped that your observations might bring up points that the designated monitors somehow overlooked, but rest assured, the persons chosen for that role were picked for their particular acuity and attention to detail.

Your praise is welcome, and indeed it sounds as though quite a few students rose quite well to the first challenge. On the other hand, I find myself rather taken aback that you consider some of the displays of loyalty to Our Lord Protective as 'disruptive.' (One wonders, in fact, what sorts of activities constitute the majority of the students' time, or whether you have difficulties controlling your students).

I trust your cats will recover whatever whiskers might have been bent as a result of Mr Thomas' demonstration.

I caution you to remember that you are still a teacher and thus you have the power and responsibility of maintaining order and decorum. All school rules (no magic in the corridors during the passing period between classes, for example) should continue to be in place for the duration of the Challenges. Some of the very students you praise, in fact, broke that very rule. Do at least try to keep the eye on the Quaffle.

Yours,
in His Service

Here's a brightener at the end of the week: Mr Crispin let me know by owl that a few pointed visits from various people was all it took to satisfactorily convey the message to Zonko's in Hogsmeade.

He is quite sure you will be pleased with the results. (More pleased than Mr Zonko, perhaps, but if he mixes with undesirable elements, that's his lookout.)

If I may say so, sir, I do admire Mr Crispin's efficiency.

My meeting with Mr Virgil Crispin was, I think, productive, and between my knowledge of the principals involved and their personal financial information, and Mr Crispin's knowledge of the procedures which must be followed, we think we have identified several potentially useful prongs of attack.

As I mentioned to you, I believe a large part of the income that Mrs Weasley is counting upon for paying the rental/assuming ownership of the Hamilton building stems from her own rental income from the lease on 25 Avenue Road. That is the building granted to her by the Repopulation Office. It occurs to me that there may be several arguments to undoing that arrangement. Mr and Mrs Weasley initially turned down the Repopulation Office's offer of a stately home. Perhaps it could be argued that Mrs Weasley should not be allowed a second bite at the apple, so to speak? In addition, investigating the specific requirements might be useful. Although Mrs Weasley has two children attending Hogwarts, she no longer has seven minor children, which was the case when the offer was initially made. I am not sure whether the Repopulation Office offers have a sunset date for assuming ownership of a stately home, dependent upon the age of the pureblood children.

Mr Crispin promises that he will carefully examine Mrs Weasley's licence application once it is submitted, and he is confident that he will be able to identify several possible opportunities for exploitation. He was able to ascertain, for example, that Messers Fred and George Weasley have actually been living at the site, when he stopped by the building to speak to them. Surely they don't have a residency permit for that, so we definitely have a zoning issue. Once Mr Crispin has reviewed the application, he will be happy to meet with you to go over whatever clauses Mrs Weasley is violating (out of sheer ignorance), and what can be done about it. I have tentatively marked a meeting between the two of you for the Friday after the application is due, but please let me know if the time needs to be adjusted.

I am sure that you will have many more ideas to ensure that this sordid little venture will come to nothing.

And I thought last week's embarrassment was bad enough, when Mr Malfoy informed me (in total disgust) of Fred and George's application to Magical Commerce to start their ridiculous joke shop. Luring his goddaughter into this foolishness, no less! As I informed Fred and George that night, he was extremely sharp with me because I had failed to give him any kind of warning before the meeting.

But oh, no, because I was called to the carpet again today to be confronted by another ugly surprise: this time Mr Malfoy ordered me to explain how my own mother managed to get herself wrapped up in this idiotic scheme!

Honestly, Mum, have you gone completely mental? If I understand Mr Malfoy correctly, you are not only purchasing the entire building, you're planning to turn it into, what, some sort of--of way station for wastrels and layabouts?! Do you intend to let the very dregs of society batten upon you?

And for what? So that you can call yourself a shopkeeper?
alt_percy: (Tie)
Mum,

I'm sorry, because I know you assume I'll be there, but I won't be at the Burrow tomorrow night for my birthday. Mr Malfoy has invited me to join him and a group of very distinguished people for dinner at Portico. It's quite a signal honour for me to be included, so I'm sure you'll understand.
alt_percy: (Default)
Have things turned around for the better with the new position? Are you starting to feel more comfortable with Mr Mulciber?
alt_percy: (Default)
Just a private note to let you know that Fred and George spent an absurd amount of time after our guests left trying to convince me that you're dating Sally-Anne Perks rather that Pansy Parkinson.

They won't listen to me but perhaps they'll listen to you if you ask them to desist. I'm afraid they might try to carry the joke on with other of your friends in your circle, and that's the sort of thing that might hurt Pansy's feelings a great deal.

I quite like her, Ron. It was altogether pleasant dinner, wasn't it?
alt_percy: (Default)
I assume you've heard about Ronald's scores? On the whole, he did rather well, didn't he?

Well, neither you nor I had a 'P' of course, but still...it could have been much worse. Ron has never impressed me as being particularly devoted to his studies, and so I was pleasantly surprised that he achieved as many 'E's as he did. And an 'O' in Defence! I was also particularly pleased to hear of his 'E' in Dark Arts. It's excellent that he'll be allowed to continue, and good thing, too: he is truly fortunate to have the opportunity to study under someone like Professor Dolohov.

I wonder when the twins will get their scores? They sounded as though they took their NEWTs rather more seriously than they took their OWLs. Nice to see them settling down and getting serious about things.

Have you heard anything about their plans for the summer? I'm trying to think of what we might do to help open up opportunities for them at the Ministry. Surely between the two of us, we should be able to identify a couple of open positions for them which would be a good fit.
alt_percy: (Default)
Can you meet with me?

Not lunch--I mean, not any of our usual places. Somewhere we can't be overheard.
alt_percy: (Tie)
All appointments have been cancelled or rescheduled as directed.

Standing by for further orders.
alt_percy: (Tie)
Can you break away for lunch today? I'm aware this isn't our usual day, but...

I must confess to being rather upset indignant put out. Mr Malfoy has been adamant about discouraging my wish to petition for Council membership--but now I've learned that Theodolphus Higgs has just been admitted.

Higgs.

Theodolphus bloody Higgs.

That laughable, contemptible buffoon is to be one of Our Lord's inner circle!? And yet Mr Malfoy still insists that I must wait. I'm not to even talk to him about it!

As an act of mercy, please meet with me and help me defuse the famous Weasley temper, or Merlin knows what I might say to my own boss.

Which would be catastrophic.

Are you all right?
